NILAI — The Ministry of Education will enhance practical training in science laboratories in schools nationwide to help increase the number of science stream students, said Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

He said in this regard, improvement of existing science laboratories in schools will also be considered before it is implemented.

“The matter is under discussion at the ministerial level, that practical approach in science subjects should be enhanced to boost students’ interest in science as it involves hands-on training.

“However, we would like to see the state of school laboratories that need to be improved or may require more appropriate equipment,” he told reporters after a TNB community project here, today.

He said this when commenting on the concerns of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) yesterday on the declining ratio of science stream students in secondary schools nationwide over the past few years.

Earlier, Chong had witnessed the handing over of a letter of intent for the restoration of a senior citizen’s house in Kuning, Mantin by Negeri Sembilan TNB’s general manager Wan Ishak Soed, involving a cost of RM40,000.
