KUALA LUMPUR : Ten of the country’s researchers are recognised as the world’s most influential scientific minds of the year, says Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.

He said the researchers were ranked among Clarivate Analytics’ top 1% by citations in the Web of Science.

Highly-cited researchers are leading the way in solving the world’s biggest challenges, he said.

The researchers were from Universiti Sains Malaysia (3), Universiti Putra Malaysia (1), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (2), Universiti Malaya (3), and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (1).

He was speaking during the launch of the Malaysia Higher Education Forum (MyHEF) 2017 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here yesterday.

The theme of the two-day forum was “Redesigning Education for Industry 4.0”.

Organised by the Higher Education Ministry, the forum explored the impact of technological advancements, automation, and innovative disruptions, brought on by Industry 4.0, on the local and global job markets.

It also looked into the needs of the future graduate, community, and industry.

“We’re working on a framework that is in line with the needs of Industry 4.0.

“We believe in being open, listening to different views, and being bold in facing the challenges ahead,” he said, adding that producing holistic and balanced graduates was as important as ensuring their employability.

He said teaching by doing, challenging and being innovative, were key to educating tomorrow’s graduates.

Among the forum’s speakers were Deputy British High Commissioner to Malaysia Paul Rennie, Tencent Holdings senior executive vice-president Lau Seng Yee, Alibaba Group vice-president Brian Wong, Tsinghua University tenured Assoc Prof Dr Kehkooi Kee, Elsevier Research Intelligence regional research solution manager Kavit Yagnik, and World Bank senior education economist Dilip Parajuli.

Today, there will be town hall sessions with youth, industry and academia.

A memorandum of understanding signing ceremony between Alibaba Business School and Universiti Utara Malaysia will also be held.
