JOHOR BARU : Despite not getting straight As for his Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Haziq Aiman Mohd Esa is confident of achieving success in the future.
The 12-year-old from SK Bandar Uda 2 here said it was a struggle to balance his studies and sports activities since he is a goalkeeper for the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) under-12 category.
“I started to show my interest towards football when I was six years old and I was enrolled in the team in 2016.
“I admit I spent most of the time on the field rather than in school. This is because my ambition in life is to become a national player,” he said at his school yesterday.
Another candidate Nurfarihah Najwa Faizal Zuhri was in tears when she found out she passed her UPSR with flying colours.
“My ambition is to become a doctor as I wish to follow in the footsteps of my parents, who are both doctors.
“Seeing how successful my parents are in their lives has motivated me to always focus on my studies in order to have a bright future,” she said.
In George Town, Year Six pupil Iris Wong also celebrated her good results.
“I made sure I did my revisions and exercises on each subject daily. I was not expecting straight As as the papers were quite tough,” said the SK Convent Green Lane student who obtained five As and 1 B in her trial examination.
Expecting Iris to pass the examination with flying colours, her parents have earlier given her the gift she wanted if she did well.
“I have already received my gift for the results which was a smartphone,” she quipped when met outside her school.
